No Kings Collective is proud to announce the 2nd annual showing of Submerge, a nine day flash ‘art happening’. Submerge 2012  is an ‘ode to the District,’  an art exhibition and creative art space that will pay homage to the town of its creation; Washington DC. Submerge, the exhibition, will be a “group exhibition” uniquely created from a collection of solo-exhibitions. Participating artists both emerging and mid-career, were presented with the unique opportunity to craft a cohesive concept and body of works in what amounts to micro-installations and exhibition, organized under one roof. As a creative space, it will play host to a number of creative and cultural happenings to fully complement and augment this cities colorful identity.

No Kings Collective will will transform this temporary space on the historic H Street Corridor in an unusual mash up of art and culture. Submerge will surface at this project located at 700 H Street NE. Submerge will be a well curated, transformative environment, one that will cater to the expectations and curiosities’ of the novice and the experienced onlooker.

No Kings Collective is a Washington, D.C.-based arts and culture group, composed of by working artist and designers. We specialize in both client-based and independent creative projects, with particular experience in the arts and entertainment. We can both provide consulting as well as produce projects from initial conception to completion.

Submerge “Day 2”

Day 2 of this opening features an interesting mix of Performance art and Music.

8pm – 8:45pm “The Meeting of 1,000 Gates”.
Presentation by local performance art starlet, Deena O Hyatt with an original, ever evolving performance of “The Meeting of 1,000 Gates”. Described as, An on-going practice and rare performance created to release tension in response to three years of chronic pain. Through voice and movement, the participant releases chakras through a non-linear narrative fluctuating between phases, as described numerologically by Alexander Jodorowsky in The Way Of The Tarot. This is a kundalini release through sound and emotion therapy promoting us to journey out of patterned response into the unknown.

Sketch Lounge + Comedy and Cocktails: The Art of Funny

7pm-12am Sketch Lounge – Presented by Somaphony
Nate Lewis of Somaphony, hosts this monthly series as a way to unite and inspire the creative community. Recognizing that a regular gathering of artists was missing from the DC arts and creative community, sketch lounge was born. Sketch Lounge aims to provide a venue for local artists work to be seen, inspiration, sharing, and networking to local artists and to those within the creative community in an informal atmosphere.

Six to eight featured artists are invited each month to create art on a small scale. Tables will be set up for the featured artists, identified with a name card. When each piece is finished it is pinned on a board with the artists name and a price between $5 – $30. Art can be purchased directly from the artist. You do not have to be a featured artist to be a part of the art making. Tables and chairs are provided. All participants must bring their own art supplies.

A curated evening of funny that will disprove all notions that D.C. has no sense of humor. Featuring the District’s hottest comics, including: Jenn Tisdale (Baltimore Comedy Factory, Brightest Young Things); Brandon Wardell (SXSW); Tyler Richardson (Finalist, Boston Comedy New York Showcase 2011); Chelsea Shorte (Co-creator/host of all-female Little Spoons Comedy Showcase) and others. Hosted by Reggie Melbrough (Arlington Drafthouse, Story League).

From the folks that brought you “Know Fashion” (www.knowfashiondc.com), No Kings Collective and the creators of KnowFashion present “Get Fashion” – a fashion retail, music, food, and art event showcasing local designers and vendor retail pop-ups from 6-11pm, live musical performances from 11-2am featuring: DJ Skim with special performances by Pree, GEMS, a collaborative set by Adam E and Jeff Boyd, and also Margo Macdonald, exclusive H Street food vendors such as Inspire BBQ and H & Pizza doing live mozzarella making, and artwork of 21 visual artists featured in the Submerge exhibition by No Kings Collective (submergedc.com). All Things Go  x  Listen Local First x DC to BC

All Things Go and the fine people of Listen Local First and DC to BC to help curate a night of music during the Submerge artfair in the temporary gallery and music venue on the historic H Street Corridor. All Things go will be taking over the space on Saturday, November 17th for a night of programming which will feature live sets from Turning Violet Violet, Dance For The Dying, Young Rapids, BRETT and ATG’s favorite party starters Body Language. The night will also feature DJ sets from Nacey of Nouveau Riche and DJ Spicoli. The event will start at 7PM and go until around 2AM. Tickets are $12 and we’re expecting them to go pretty fast!
